American Montessori Society Accredited School

Kirkwood Children’s House is fully accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA). KCH is the only AMS accredited school in the state of Missouri.

In 1960, Dr. Nancy McCormick Rambusch established the American Montessori Society. The goals of AMS are to support efforts to create authentic schools, develop teacher education programs, and publicize the value of Montessori education. Today, AMS is a worldwide leader in Montessori education.

All of the Montessori teachers at KCH have undergone a rigorous Montessori training process beyond their undergraduate degree. In addition, the school and staff undergo a yearly accreditation process by AMS to ensure the highest standard in Montessori education. Our Montessori teachers also attend an annual three-day Montessori AMS conference with their colleagues from around the country. The students enrolled at KCH benefit from the staff’s continuous professional development and high standards set by AMS.

Teachers

The lead teachers at Kirkwood Children’s House are highly educated and Montessori certified with years of experience working with young children. Support staff – from assistant teachers to office personnel – are trained in the philosophy and common goals of the school. Just as the Montessori philosophy is based on respect, so is the basis for our relationships with one another in our school community. All teachers and staff develop positive, long-lasting relationships with the children through mutual trust and respect. Sensitive to the social and emotional needs of each individual child, our teachers create an environment where your child is always supported.
